Surgical Decisions

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

A lot of surgeries can be put off. For instance, if you have to have your hip replaced, you can wait, or you can get it done quickly. There are benefits to both, and it really comes down to personal preference. I have a friend who needed to get his hip replaced and he was going to get it done quickly, but then he realized he could ski on it still, so he waited until after ski season to get it replaced. He had to deal with the pain but it was worth it to get one more ski season in. If you need something replaced, you should ask you doctor if you could put it off, or just get it over with quickly. Your choice will depend on a lot of things.

Crutch Crazyness

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Breaking a leg, or anything else that requires crutches, is painful. But what amazes me even more is that crutches are so painful. People usually don’t complain when they have a cast or a boot on their leg, but they let you know that the crutches are causing some intense pain. Most of these people do not have the correct set of crutches. There are different types and lengths of crutches, and if you have uncomfortable crutches, you should look for something new to use. There are plenty of crutches out there, and they are relatively cheap, so don’t use hand me downs that cause you to hate using them. It is worth the money to buy new crutches.

Gluten Free Goodness

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

My new favorite whole food is these all-natural, gluten free tortilla chips sold in various stores. The name is hard to pronounce and remember, since it has about six “X’s” in it. Someone who has celiac disease introduced these chips to me because they are gluten free, but I fell in love with them. They are thin, crispy and salty (the three most important characteristics of a chip). They taste like fresh tortilla chips from a number of restaurants. It is unbelievable. I will never buy Tostitos again, because these chips are heavenly in comparison. You can find them practically everywhere, but stores like Whole Foods have them all the time.
