Meaningful Gift Giving

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

A lot of the time I end up giving someone a present just because they gave me one. For example, someone I kind of know buys me a Christmas present. It is really nice of them to do, but at the same time I now have to get them something. So, I take the present and say something like “Oh, I have a present for you too, but I just haven’t brought it to work yet.” The obligation to buy someone a gift kind of takes the whole point of buying presents away, but once they get you something you have to get them something. My best friend and I don’t buy gifts for each other anymore, because we know we both care, but we would rather just spend time with each other or buy them a drink or something instead of a gift one of us probably won’t use.

Keeping up with the News

One entertainment news item I always try to stay caught up in is the release of new music. I always want to know who’s coming out with a new album and when, because I would like to get it as soon as possible. I have no idea which celebrities got married and which are cheating on each other and so on, but I can tell you when the new Dave Matthews album is coming out, or for how long the Lupe Fiasco album is taking. I usually use iTunes to find out exactly when a new CD is coming out, but sometimes that is incomplete so I just search a few entertainment blogs regularly. I get excited about music news, whereas celebrity gossip just doesn’t do it for me.

The Greatest Hits

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

When I talk to my parents, or I talk to other older people, none of them listen to any new music. It makes me wonder, at what point in your life do you stop looking for new music to listen to? It seems like my parents hit stations just slowly evolved into the classic stations, and I am wondering when I will do the same. I probably won’t listen to new music forever, but won’t you get sick of old music after a while? The bands I listen to today are only getting older, and so they can only release so many more albums. It probably isn’t something you decide in one day, but rather it occurs over a long period of time, and before you know it, you haven’t bought any CD’s that aren’t someone’s greatest hits for a few years.
